Shafter Chamber Sets Banquet to Kick Off Big Year
Shafter's biggest year in development and growth will be launched at a Monday banquet. Four hundred teachers will attend at Richland School cafeteria for the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture event featuring installation of officers, a note by Earl Coke of Bank of America, and the naming of Shafter Man of the Year. The Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District will receive a special award for completing a 10 million dollar distribution system bringing Central Valley Project water to about 40 000 acres. Assemblyman Pat Kelly and John Peters will represent the district. Dignitaries from county and nearby chambers will attend.

Three Shafter Men Arrested In Coin Box Burglary
Three Shafter men Ray B. Coward 24 Jack R. Worsham 22 and Billy F. Colvard 21 were arrested by deputies on Union Avenue Bakersfield after officers halted a suspected burglary of a telephone coin box at the Beacon cafe parking lot. Colvard was found sleeping in a car. arrested for drunkness and the others for alleged burglary.

Richland School District in Shafter reports its cafeteria volume ranks third in the county behind Bakersfield and Kern County Union high districts.
