Larry Mercer described the 27th Air Division’s growth to over 3,500 personnel and more than 10,000 volunteers supporting radar posts in Shafter Taft Wasco Delano Tehachapi and other county communities. Telephone Firm Starts Addition to Its Building
Construction began Monday on an expansion of the Shafter dial telephone building. The frame and studio addition measures about 22 by 40 feet and will house future equipment. Contractor Willard K. Michael of Bakersfield leads the project. Pacific Telephone manager T. F. Blair notes completion timing is undecided. Shafter now serves about 2,300 telephones, up nearly 1,700 in ten years. The addition aims to support future growth.
