Boy Scouts Coffee Hour Fundraiser in Shafter
The Boy Scouts of Shafter host a Saturday morning coffee hour at Veterans Memorial Hall from 9 to 11. Tickets cost 50 cents for coffee and doughnuts. A bale of cotton donated by Coberly-West Co. will be awarded. Proceeds help cover about $600 yearly building costs. New SWID Manager Appointed for Madera District
Robert C. Diltz named manager of the Madera Irrigation District effective March 1, succeeding T. R. Thompson who joins a government water project in Iran. Diltz, former Peerless Pump and Bureau of Reclamation staffer, is a graduate geologist and ex air force glider pilot, married with three children. The SWID board announced the appointment at a special meeting as the district prepares a $10 million irrigation system. Demonstrations noted the system should serve four acres along Kimberlina road initially, expanding to 14 000 acres by next November, with southern sections to follow by February 1958. A contract for water delivery will be signed at a special SWID meeting.

Interclub Meet Between Shafter and Oildale Rotarians
The Shafter Rotary club hosted an interclub meeting with Oil dale Rotarians in Oildale. Ulrich K H Gauss of Stuttgart Germany spoke as a Rotary foundation fellow for 1956 57. Gauss is among 126 outstanding graduate students from 33 countries awarded fellowships. Siemens noted two and a half million dollars has funded 130 Rotary fellows for the coming year.

Final Rites Held for Frank Shaw First City Clerk of Shafter
Final tribute was paid to Frank Shaw 75 at Armstrong Mortuary for the first city clerk of Shafter who died Sunday in Bakersfield. Burial was in Shafter cemetery. Rev Paul Edward Babbitt led services as Shafter area businesses closed an hour for the funeral. Shaw had retired from city service but remained deputy registrar for Kern County vital statistics.

Doctors Aim to Clean Up Polio in One Drive

The Houchin Blood Mobile will be in Shafter on Wednesday March 13 at Veterans Memorial Hall 301 California Ave from 4 PM to 7 PM. Since 1952 the Shafter Blood Fund has collected 299 pints and used 293 pints leaving six pints deposited. Longtime Shafter resident Mrs. Cavin dies after illness
Mrs. Caving Cavins, born May 27, 1874 in Illinois, died after a long illness in Shafter. Rev. Teddy Mouser officiated at services at First Southern Baptist Church of Wasco and interment followed at Shafter cemetery. Survivors include two sons, six daughters, 31 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jack Wilcox on, Gene Wilcoxon, Mack Wilcoxon, Edward Duffel, Max Newboles and Ben Cavins.
