Kern High Board approves 25 year Shafter recreation complex deal
The Kern High School District Board unanimously approved a 25 year agreement with the Shafter Recreation and Parks District to design construct and develop a recreation complex on KHSD property at Shafter High. The contract sets annual rental payments and prioritizes improvements while KHSD handles utilities and maintenance. Final vote moves to the Shafter Parks and Recreation District on March 8.

Herb Neufeld, former Kern High School District instructional services director, is appointed principal of Shafter High School, replacing Evan G. Jones who died last month. A Shafter native, Neufeld has served the district since 1963 with a long career in teaching, counseling, and administration. Shafter High School athlete Scott Peterson was named Outstanding Citizen and Tyack Trophy recipient at the 35th Vineland Sports Banquet set for March 23, 1983 in Bakersfield Sunset School Cafetorium. Selection followed a Feb 16 awards committee meeting recognizing his four-year impact in football basketball and track along with scholarship and leadership.

Shatter Health Fair Plans In Kern County Health Week
Shatter will host its first annual Health Fair during April 14 to 24 as part of Health Fair Week an area wide campaign in Kern County. The event offers free basic screenings health education and referrals with a nominal charge for blood chemistry and provisions for those unable to pay. Cathy Prout coordinates the Shafter site with local sponsors organizations and volunteers assisting the Model Health Fair in Bakersfield February 24 at KBAK TV 29 Strong to demonstrate operations pre registration advised by calling Channel 29.
