Florafaunium in Lebec Reopens as Valley Tourism Center
The Florafaunium in Lebec near Los Angeles reopened in early 1946 as an information center for the eleven San Joaquin Valley counties. The building houses California flora and fauna displays begun by Emery Whilton more than 32 years ago, with a March 16 1942 dedication. About 500 vehicles stop daily since V J Day as visitors explore the deer habitats and other exhibits in the county owned facility on donated grounds.
