Groundbreaking for Shafter Courtroom Opens New Era
Ground was broken on a new Shafter courtroom and offices eight days after a snowstorm. Judge Gary Ingle noted the move from the Pacific Avenue building to Central Valley Highway marked a decade since the Municipal Court shifted locations. The second phase, built by Wallace & Smith Contractors, aims to coordinate with Bakersfield courts, easing safety concerns from the old facility. Judge Robert McDaniel recalled the cramped 1981 courtroom where trains rattled windows, while Kern County officials praised funding amid state changes. County Supervisor Jon McQuiston and Wasco’s Ken Peterson stressed the project’s necessity for safer prisoner handling and court services.
