Santa Fe Defends Intrastate Fare Position Against Greyhound
J. R. Hitchcock, general manager of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, rebutts Pacific Greyhound Lines president W. E. Travis over California intrastate fares. He argues Greyhound set its own rates and that California’s railroad commission has not ruled on them, warning that Greyhound’s monopoly harms Californians and that Santa Fe should be allowed to compete to lower fares and improve service. He cites Greyhound’s 1934 net operating revenue of 1,499,979.34 and 24.7 percent return, noting 1935 results.
