Local Scrap Metal Drive Backed by Shafter Business Men

Herb Midgley pledges support from the Shafter Business Men's Association for a community salvage drive. Ted Vignolo announced full backing and a wide pick up date planned for early September. A salvage wardens group was formed, pledge cards issued, and a depot set at the General Petroleum yard on Central Avenue to collect scrap, fats, rubber, tags, and manila rope. Households will save fats in tins and deliver to butchers for four cents per pound.

They will be served breakfast at the Wasco Malt Shop before a 5 30 a m roll call. War Department rules now allow 1-A registrants to be inducted, a group including several from this batch.
