Soils Need Air for Total Crop Growth
A Purdue University study with researchers from Nebraska and the U S Department of Agriculture shows that introducing oxygen into muck soils dramatically boosts yields. When aeration reaches 4 inches yields rise modestly, but at 18 inches and beyond gains reach up to tenfold for crops like red beets corn onions and potatoes. Adequate plant nutrients and rainfall supporting those plots kept water from limiting production.

Innovative trough design by James F. Lincoln foundation
A unique drinking trough with an overflow pipe to the larger trough eliminates the need for a float valve. The arrangement doubles as part of a fence and serves as a bath pen. Water from both troughs exits via the overflow pipe, sending water to a lower level.
