Witnesses face deportation amid Dominican persecution
Ten American missionaries were deported from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico on August 3. L. N. Coleman of the Shafter Jehovah's Witnesses said the action followed a crackdown that bans Bible education and forces renunciation of ties to the Brooklyn office. About 250 Witnesses were questioned, many beaten, and 50 remain in prison as authorities claim a $1 million program to enforce the ban.
