The Shafter Play Center invites parents to enroll children for its third year at 303 Pacific Avenue. A get acquainted session is set for September 4 with regular classes starting the following week. Tuition is 10 dollars monthly per child with limited mother helper duties. a 25 dollar flat monthly fee applies if help is not available.
Pacific Telephone asks the California Public Utilities Commission to raise rates to cover mounting operating costs. Proposals include higher charges for service connections and installation, longer distance calls within the state, and subscriber moves. The plan would boost statewide revenue by about 14 million annually after taxes. A note on rising state and local taxes accompanies the tariff request.
