The Shafter Wasco Irrigation District board approved purchasing a three bedroom home from the Bureau of Reclamation camp at Delano for 3100 dollars. Disease Fight Fund Grants Fellows To Notable Hospitals
The 20 30 International head quarters via the 20 30 Club of Shafter directs a $50 deviation fund to aid rheumatic fever research. Fellowships totaling $16 200 are awarded to Harvard Medical School Mount Sinai Hospital Salt Lake General Hospital UCSF and Children’s Hospital Society of Los Angeles. Since 1948 the program has awarded over $90,000 through contributions from member clubs.

Alert Farmer Helps Capture Two Burglars
A Shafter farmer aided deputies in catching two 16 year old burglars who had robbed three homes in one night. Harley Barling recognized the youths at his home on Smiths corner and notified authorities, leading to the pair being captured after fleeing into a cotton patch. The boys confessed to breaking into the Riverside avenue homes of D. C. Schneider and Sam Dirksen.
