Farm bill moves from Ag Committee to House action
The House Agriculture Committee approved H.R. 2646 after rewriting the Federal Farm Bill. The measure strengthens valley agriculture with a market oriented commodity program, higher funding for market access and foreign market development, expanded ag research, and a longer price support for milk. It also increases funding for surplus fruit and vegetable purchases, expands conservation programs, adds a farm revenue insurance pilot, streamlines food stamp aid, and funds a Farmworker Training Program to boost farmworker skills.

VATUyer Awarded Full Scholarship at CSU Fresno
Christie Unruh a Shafter High School graduate is among 75 students to receive full scholarships for 2001 2002 at the Smithcamp Family Honors College California State University Fresno from 526 applications. Each recipient gets a $200 book allowance and campus housing room rent. Honors College offers priority registration special classes limited to 25 students a weekly colloquium and guest speaker discussions plus service requirements and GPA standards.
