Track team at Shafter high values quality over quantity
Shafter High track fields a small squad yet posts strong results guided by coach Jan Stuebbe. Standout performers include Paul Bender, a leading high school shot put and discus thrower, with other key runners and jumpers such as Dale Ashley, John Tjepkema, Mike Lopez, Scott Peterson, Dan Ballard, and Ken Ellis. Girls show progress with a lean but promising core led by Stacy Carroll and Monica Ashe, while the team aims for league success and eventual qualification to regional meets. The next home meet is Thursday at 3:30, with recent results against Garces and Corcoran. Pete Gonzales placed sixth in the Natural Light Half Marathon in San Diego.
