Air District launches flexible smoke management for Kern Valley
The Air District unveils a new burn system dividing the Valley air basin into more than 100 zones with zone based emission limits. Farmers may request burn authorization from 8 a.m. the day before via phone or the website and call center hours run 6 to 11 a.m. daily. Affected permit holders receive guidance by mail before going online.

KernCog to announce 2004 priority road projects
KernCog releases the 2004 Draft Federal Transportation Improvement Program outlining about 20 priority highway projects for Kern County. The plan focuses on widening Highways 14 46 58 and 395 and Westside Parkway environmental work, amid funding constraints from the state budget crisis and delayed federal authorization.
