Funeral services for 75 year old Alice Lou Brown of 147 East Ash Street Shafter will be held at 10 30 a m Wednesday at the Pentecostal Church of God in Shafter with Rev Wayne Owen and Jewel Rose officiating Burial follows in Shafter Memorial Park Music will be by Rev and Mrs Wayne Owen Mrs Brown a native of Grand Saline Texas was married to Wm Henry Brown in 1910 and lived in Grand Saline Colorado City Texas and California Survivors include her husband sons Ben F Frederick H J and others 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren Pallbearers are listed Funeral arrangements were by Agee Family Funeral Home

The Shafter Cotton Research Station reports soil temperatures rose despite a cool wet week. Minimum 50 degrees on April 19 20 and high 66 on April 17 with rainfall every day except April 20 totaling 1.01 inches. season total now 6.78 inches.

Sealed bids sought for California highway project near Shafter
The California Department of Public Works invites sealed proposals for a highway contract on the Solent Stanashd Roads segment near Shafter, 3.0 miles west to 0.30 mile east of Shafter Avenue. Bids due May 3 1967. Plans available at State Highway Engineer offices and district offices. The project requires asphalt concrete surface and specifies apprenticeship and wage rules under state law. The Department may reject any or all bids and guarantees nondiscrimination in awarding the contract.
