Walter Mince to Lead Shafter High School Football and PE
Walter R. Mince, East Bakersfield High School assistant varsity football and head swimming coach, will transfer to Shafter High School next fall as head football coach and physical education teacher. A Bakersfield native, he played at Bakersfield High and Bakersfield College, starred in football and track, and lettered at the University of Arizona. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, played part of 1962, then spent time with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders before injuries ended his pro career. He succeeds Carl Bowser as Shafter’s coach. Bowser joins Renegade staff.

At 10 30 Saturday night Assistant Chief Nixon and Patrolman Williams caught three youths on Hem ingson s roof and stairs near Coast to Coast Store. A 16 year old barefoot boy said shoes were on the roof. All three were later tied to several burglary attempts across local stores.

Two Plead Guilty To Theft Charges In Shafter Court
Jerry Alberson But terswillow and Jackie Williamson of Shafter appeared in Shafter Justice Court on Monday May 1. They pled guilty to petty theft under Section 488 of the Penal Code for robbing the Central Valley Second Hand Store and were sentenced to serve the first 179 days of an 180 day Kern County Jail term.

New Road Plan for Shafter Replaces Freeway
