Dependable Shafter Business Centered On Food Town Market
In Shafter this week the Dependable Business Directory spotlights Food Town Market owned by Mayor Joe Frizzell. Built for him in 1939 and occupied January 7 1940, the store marks Frizzell’s shift from a Central Avenue market and a 13 year Los Angeles grocery career then Springfield Missouri before moving to Shafter in 1936. The Meat Department is run by Frank Johnson who took over July 25 1942 and returned after 18 months in the army. Johnson has lived in Shafter since 1921 and is pictured with Verlin Perry Bill Frizzell Joyce West. Not shown are Monk Perry and Johnny Bartel.
