Funding eyed for dangerous Highway 46 safety upgrades
Gov. Gray Davis announced a transportation plan that may fund safety work on Highway 46 after long lobbying by Assemblyman Dean Florez. KernCog secured 45 million dollars for near term improvements while state funds already earmarked 25 million for Highway 46 and 12 million for Highway 65. The Highway 46 Safety Task Force, led by Supervisor Ken Peterson, includes Caltrans and CHP and aims to cut fatalities on the corridor.
