1995 Shafter Train Derailment Settlement Reached
Settlement reached over the 1995 derailment of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train at Fresno Avenue and Santa Fe Way Shafter. Twenty nine cars derailed at 1 a.m. October 25 causing a chemical spill, evacuations, rail replacement of 800 feet, and 18 trains rerouted. Settlement payments ranged from five hundred to one thousand one hundred dollars after fees.

Volunteers Celebrate National Week in Shafter Community
April 9 15 marks National Volunteer Week an opportunity to thank those who donate time and talents. Shafter appoints Tobias as new economic director
Shafter City Manager John Guinn announced Tobias will lead the city’s economic development. Guinn praised Tobias’s community planning background and noted his four years as city manager and three as Delano Director of Planning and Economic Development. Mayor Garry Nelson welcomed Tobias as a strong addition to the management team.
