Mural committee selections under way for Floyd's building project
Shafter City Council hears proposals for a first full scale mural on Floyd's store front on Central Avenue. Downtown Manager Lori Williamson pitches two designs by Pierre Igon and notes collaboration with Bakersfield Art Association since January. City will form a committee of the planning director and four at large members to review concepts before a final council decision.

Richland Family Literacy Program grows for Spanish speakers
The Richland Lerdo School District runs an evening English class set for Spanish speaking families. Originating in 1998 99 under Kathy Mayes and James Donahue the program has expanded to two migrant adult classes and a kindergarten linked class. Participants include Santiago Gomez Maria Bojorquez and Rosario Guerrero who seek better English to aid at school and in future careers.
