In Kern County Drug Court proceedings Judge Robert McDaniel and Santos Lapita praised staff as graduates described renewal and accountability. Participants cited faith, family support, and sobriety while acknowledging past harm and the need to stay committed to recovery and AA work.

Joaquin Patino Jr a long time Shafter resident and SHS arts and crafts teacher will serve as Grand Marshal for the Cinco de Mayo Parade on Saturday April 29 at 10 am in downtown Shafter. Patino helped start Shafter’s Cinco de Mayo activities and leads MEChA the school club. He has organized dances and school wide cultural events since 1980 and owns Crafts By Armiatad selling Mexican and Latino crafts.
Vera and Buck Stewart married after meeting in Oklahoma in 1919, rodeos and family stories mark their long life together. The couple moved to California in 1936, living in a tent city in Shafter before Buck became foreman at Ralph Lachemaier Ranch in 1952.
