Volunteer Firemen Extinguish Blaze At Regier Home
The Shafter volunteer fire department put out a small house fire at the H. W. Regier residence on Poso Street at 5 55 pm. The loss was about 20 dollars. Fire warden Art Craig says gasoline fumes ignited by a gas heater caused the blaze while Regier was nearby but uninjured. He warns against using gasoline for cleaning and notes safer cleaners endorsed by the board of fire underwriters are available.

Orators Set for Fresno Regional Public Speaking Contest
Seven high school students from Kern Stanislaus Fresno Merced Kings and Madera counties will compete at Fresno Technical High School on April 10 at 12 30 pm for the San Joaquin valley regional title. Elynor Rudnick of Kern County Union High School Bakersfield leads the field after county wins. The regional winner earns a gold trophy and advances to the finals in San Francisco on April 27 at the Veterans War Memorial Building. The event is open to the public.
