Mr and Mrs August Rudolph marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Monday with family gathering and congratulations from friends. The couple, longtime residents, were feted at a quiet reception at home.
On Monday June 26, a 125 member clan gathered five miles northwest of Eldora to mark fifty years since August Rudolph and his wife wed in Germany in 1869. Twelve children, 76 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren joined kin from Iowa and other states for a day of feasting, memory making, and a family portrait by R. V. Adams. August Rudolph, 74, and Mrs. Rudolph, 72, remain in good health as they enjoy retirement from farming a 240 acre Hardin county homestead.
Captain K. W. Brown of Ames, a traveling Christian reformer, spoke three times Sunday from the Baptist pulpit on temperance and a clean life. Morning addressed “My Personal Influence,” afternoon “The Firm of Jesus Christ & Co.,” evening “What is a Christian Citizen?” He, a Civil War veteran, urged living a consistent life to influence others and wore a rebel button. He has long travel experience across seven states and also works for New York glove and mitten house. Hardin county politics mention noted with J. H. Funk as opposing a current law.
Start Drug Co promotes Hollister's Rocky Mountain Tea that claims to aid digestion and blood and bone health. The product lists 35c for tea or tablets and targets the sick and weak.
Curator Charles Aldrich of the Iowa historical department plans adding portraits of Admiral Walker of the Panama canal commission, late lieutenant governor Matt Parrott of Waterloo, and former State Representative John D. Hunter of Webster City to the state gallery. Hunter, who helped introduce the legislative measure behind Iowa’s board of control, lies ill at his Webster City home. Hunter formerly owned the Iowa Falls Sentinel in Eldora over forty years ago.
Low round trip rates to St Paul and Minneapolis with Chicago Great Western lines. Tickets on sale daily through September 30, with final return by October 31. Similar low rates apply to Minnesota North Dakota Colorado Utah and Wyoming destinations. Agents may apply.

Mrs N C Morse and Miss Beruff travel to Hot Springs S D for rest. Jas G Bales and bride return to Eldora, moving to New Providence. Edgingtons visit Lois Edgington. he was Eldora’s first white child born after platting. Miss Abigail Pickett visits Clermont. formerly taught in Eldora. J B Dennis and wife of Traer guests of Keene family. Dennis long-time worker. Mel Baker of St Anthony visits parents. sold his drug business and seeks new venture. Sheriff A W Mitterer tours South Dakota for land prospects but does not invest.

The Iowa Telephone Company known as Bell has acquired the Hardin County Cedar Valley system. A consolidation agreement with Mutual Exchange will place Bell toll lines into Mutual offices while Mutual handles local exchanges. Discontinuation of Cedar Valley and Bell exchanges is planned for July 1, with Mutual offering the combined service including Bell toll facilities and past Mutual service, ending local competition and reducing business disruption.
Eldora riders: two or three telephones will be eliminated and local service will be unified under Mutual. Subscribers must notify Car S. Newcomer of intent. rates set at 1.50 for business and 1.00 for residence monthly in advance. Toll charges apply to non subscribers using a subscriber’s line. pay stations listed. Change takes effect July 1 or when lines are moved.

The Iowa State Fair at Des Moines in late August will expand corn exhibit premiums with identical prizes for ten ears from each district and special top prizes for best ear of corn. A new cattle feature tests milking ability across breeds using the Babcock method, with $100 in premiums and a three day test supervised by Superintendent Packard. Entries close August 1.

Myranda Meyer becomes the wife of George Gruener in a Thursday afternoon ceremony at the Meyer home. Immediate relatives and a small circle of friends will attend and celebrate afterward. Gruener, son of Rev G Gruener, grew up in Waterloo and worked as a salesman in Des Moines. The couple will reside in Des Moines after the ceremony. Ackley World Herald extends congratulations on the marriage.
