A shocking zoo incident ended in a deadly duel when a beast attacked its keeper after the master wed. The creature fatally mauled the keeper, leaving him dying with injuries described as an eye torn out and a hand chewed off.
A Marseilles Zoo duel between the adult gorilla François and keeper Journeaux ends with the gorilla dead after a 20 minute fight. Journeaux dies five hours later from grievous wounds including a torn eye and chewed hand. Ed Clary of Metropolitan Life was in Seda lia for a business trip.
