A passenger coach and a mixed train car derailed on the Versailles branch of the Missouri Pacific near Fortuna south of Tipton. Sixteen aboard were badly bruised. cause a broken rail on a trestle. The wreck blocked service until 4:30 pm and passengers were moved by box cars to Versailles. Local railroad personnel and officials are noted among those affected.
Col Harry Reid, chairman of the grievance committee for the Order of Railway Conductors, returned from Texas with a favorable crop outlook after touring the state. In Hillsboro he helped organize a 40 member lodge. Grand Junior Conductor A Shepard will visit March 18 for a special meeting and lodge instructions as part of a Southern tour. The 1901 year end report shows the largest yearly gain yet, praising local and grand officers.
A list of local workers including Frank Schmidt and M P Cronin among new hospital arrivals. The Missouri Pacific offers a round trip rail fare of 2.80 to Kansas City for Paderewski recital travel, with departures at 2 30 p m and returns at 10 45 p m from the city.
Charles Games is reinstated as fireman on the west end of the Missouri Pacific. Frank Dobel, formerly in the Missouri Pacific telegraph office here, has accepted a position as night operator.

A Kentucky man purchases the A N Maltby property at 1406 West Broadway for 4000 dollars in a move that brings a new resident to town. Bailey and Smith sold the property to A E Campbell of Frankfort who will relocate his family here next week. The paper notes improvements and local happenings as horsemen prepare to train on the State fair race track opening next Saturday.
Two days after Miss Lillian Mortimer staged in the Castle of the King in Joplin and arriving in Springfield she received a small express package resembling a jewel. Opening it revealed a silver dollar on a pink cushion.
Fire insurance adjustors report rapid progress after last Friday’s blaze. Frank B. Meyer is paid $11,000, the full policy, while Olmsted’s barn loss is settled and plans to rebuild this spring. Cannon Guenther Loomis losses paid. bank and James Glass still unsettled.
George P Welch 45, proprietor of the Hotel Taylor at Pleasant Hill, died by his own hand in a Kansas City hotel room. He had gone to Kansas City seeking work as his business failed. A note on a card requested bequeathing his body to Kansas City Medical University. He left a wife and daughter.
The Kansas City Journal discusses David R. Francis as a potential Democratic presidential candidate for 1904 with a plan to delay the St. Louis exposition until 1905. It argues Francis could win Southern and Western support, leverage the Louisiana Purchase territory, and be seen as a national figure ready to open the 1905 exposition as president.
Mrs August Hoffman wife of a painter and decorator is reported critically ill at Twenty third and Ohio streets. Louis Heisterbere of Katy shops is the proud father of a handsome girl born at his home Tuesday.

The son of Katy brakeman Frank Gouge at 1105 East Third Street was knocked unconscious after grabbing a live wire near the Third and Summit corner. He recovered quickly at home, though his burned hand remains painful.
Miss Anna Schieberl left this morning for Kansas City to begin work as a stenographer. She has been a student at Hill's.

L. E. Shepperd grand junior conductor of the O R C. is expected here next Tuesday night March 18 to meet with the Sedalia division for conductors. Mr Shepperd's home is at Camden New Jersey.
The Organ Builders of Calvary Episcopal Church met Wednesday afternoon in the church parlors and reorganized electing President Mrs H C Demuth Vice President Mrs J H Doyle Treasurer Mrs W H Mellor Secretary Miss Bessie Doyle The first meeting will be held Friday at 3 o clock at the home of Mrs H C Demuth
Captain E. W. Stevens has purchased about forty high quality buggy and carriage horses at premium prices and plans to ship them to New Orleans.
Mr J C Hatton asks The Sentinel to state his appreciation for the honor conferred upon him at the mass meeting Tuesday night. He expresses gratitude for the recognition and support from the attendees and community.
The meeting of the W C T U will discuss if better social institutions can overcome the evil influences of the saloon in tomorrow afternoon’s session.

The East Broadway Christian church Christian Endeavor society presents Parson Poor's Donation Party tonight and tomorrow night with a small admission fee. The 972 acre Spring Fork stock farm eight miles south of Sedalia was sold Wednesday to Allan B. Kirk of Chicago for 50000 cash and realty. Gilbert D. Davis, longtime Pettis county horse breeder, sold the property after negotiations arranged through Bailey & Smith. The deal closed yesterday with deed filing.
