Sherman Gardner and his wife returned to their home near Yuba City with Christmas gifts for their 10 year old daughter Olive. Inside they found Olive dead on the floor after Hershel Clement age 10 allegedly fired a gun through a screen door. He reportedly said I am going to shoot you.
Charles Williams alias Albert Cook, 25, confessed to burglarizing stores in Bellevue and nearby towns including Kirkland ferry slip and Snohomish, after being arrested Friday night. Police say Williams implicated accomplice Harry Harrington, a career offender, who allegedly sold the loot and was found with knives and watches traced to the Bellevue heist.
President Harding announced to the White House that Associate Justice Mahlon Pitney will resign from the supreme court effective January 1, 1923 under a special act allowing 60 days to arrange retirement. Health concerns cited. no successor named.
In Warsaw and Paris dispatches report Poland's President Gabriel Narutowicz was shot and killed as he attended his inauguration. The assassin Niewiadinski was arrested. Riots and protests followed with deputies absenting themselves and soldiers guarding the government buildings. Narutowicz, a former foreign minister, had been elected on December 8 by the National Assembly.
The Seattle grand jury heard limited testimony Saturday on bootlegging gambling and police corruption. Witnesses N J Nichowe and R J Schofield said they had no useful knowledge. High police officials were expected but not yet summoned by noon, following Police Lieutenant George Olmstead who presented patrol sheets.

Five women appeared at police headquarters to claim eighteen dollars found at Pike Place market by Dan Mc Bachern of Nob Hill. Mrs Eric W Brown described the purse and money accurately and received the funds from authorities.
