Income of Railroads From Interstate Commerce Commission
The Interstate Commerce Commission’s preliminary 1895 fiscal report shows US railroads totaling 164 198 miles operated across 650 roads, with gross and net earnings per mile and a notable drop in operating expenses. The data indicate a $712 per mile expense reduction year over year, a decreased workforce by about 4 000, and signs of revival in industrial confidence.
