Albert Johnson a 2h old motorman was killed after a fight at a Grand Rapids boarding house. G B Holmes 27 a fellow boarder and civil engineer fired five shots wounding Johnson thrice and killing him. Holmes surrendered to police.
Washington January 14 Mise Clara Barton president of the American National Red Cross Society said after consulting Turkish legation and a U.S. representative that reports of the Red Cross defying the sultan are entirely incorrect. Professor J W Layton reports a bicycle incident in Cape May involving Walter Douglass and Miss Luddie Garrison near a cottage. Douglass suffered a smashed wheel after Billy the billy goat charged into his bicycle, while Garrison kept a distance and hid her face. The Gold Reserve in Washington closed at 312,271,000 with withdrawals in New York totaling 1,04.

At 8 o'clock tonight Rev. A. W. Cooper officiated a marriage joining Miss Mamie Belknap 22 and Joseph A. Dow 6, an Erie and Wyoming Valley yard engineer at Hawley Pennsylvania.
Early today a special freight train collided with a local freight on the Mahoning bridge north of Pittsburg. The local engine toppled into the Mahoning river from the bridge as the freight engine boiler exploded setting fire to the structure and several cars. No fatalities reported.

The American trotting horse owner Kneebe was tried in Berlin for entering and starting the mare Bethel under the name Nellbe Kneebs. The jury found frailty and the court sentenced Kneebs to nine months in prison and a 1000 mark fine with seizure of the mare.

William J. Tate a renowned inventor of 3520 Lewie Street Port Richmond Philadelphia killed himself at his South Atlantic City cottage by drinking corrosive sublimate today. The 60s era inventor left a widow and several children. wealthy with no known financial troubles. Coroner Mc Laughlin ordered the body removed and Mrs Tate arrived from Philadelphia to take charge.
