The thirtieth graduation exercises are held this evening at Scarsdale High School. Principal Lester W. Nelson presides. The program starts at 8 15 with Mendelssohn’s March from Athalia played by the senior orchestra conducted by Morton Bley.
Forty seven students graduated at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in an afternoon ceremony in the school auditorium. Rev William L Doty of Cardinal Hayes High School was the speaker and diplomas were presented by Rev Dr William P Little.
The Scarsdale Woman's Exchange at 33 Harwood Court will remain open through July. Directors voted at the June 12 meeting to continue operations and a broader line of baked goods will be offered. In July the Exchange will be closed on Wednesdays with hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. New board members Mrs. Charles F. Walden and Mrs. Maurice Griffin were welcomed.
The free public library is now located in the Town Hall under the Eastchester Recreation Commission. Mrs. Vernon B. Winiker chairs the library committee and Mrs. Muriel Rooney serves as librarian. Over 1 000 books have been compiled and cataloged, including many best sellers, available Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 and Saturday mornings 10 to 12.

At a June town meeting a panel urged blocking new six story apartments on Central Avenue while eyeing a shift to three story garden units up to 400 feet deep. Council members warned of costs and a potential building boom funded by federal loans, with 160 attendees present.
Cooperative observer A W Ed derbuttel records highs and lows for Scarsdale from June 11 to 17. Highs ranged 72 to 87 degrees while lows varied 53 to 70 degrees across the week.
Hundreds of residents back a village wide Fourth of July on Butler Field with Army bands color guards firing squad and fireworks. William W. Luman announced the program and committees for Scarsdale’s eleventh annual patriotic event and noted no accidents since 1937.
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scarsdale plans a Sunday ground breaking for its new building at the Murray Hill Post Road corner. A reception at the Woman's Club precedes a 3 p.m. outdoor service with greetings from local officials, clergy, and Lutheran representatives. Delval Construction of Scarsdale will erect the first unit and begin work immediately.
The LeRoy Gregory Post 979 of the American Legion will hold a salvage drive Sunday June 22 starting at 1 p.m. rain or shine. Collectors will cover Eastchester Green Knolls Wilmont Park and the area between Harney Road and Brambach Avenue to benefit the post building fund. Papers should be tied and curbside. basements collection and information requests go to Post Commander Dominick F. Palizzo.
Scarsdale Friends Meeting seeks funds to build a meeting house on Popham Road as current activities operate from basements and borrowed spaces. A brochure recounts the group’s history and links the drive to the 30th anniversary of the American Friends Service Committee.
Memorial Day report states a flag and two cases were found on East Parkway and unclaimed. Parade marshal Arthur Bouton says efforts to locate the owners were unsuccessful and the items are stored at Fenimore Road police headquarters awaiting rightful owners.
Anson McLoud was elected president of the Wayside Players of Scarsdale at the annual meeting on June 11. Elected officers include Mrs. Joseph Andrews as first vice president and Mrs. W. Raymond Bell as second vice president.
Scarsdale Lions Club announced last week that Roy Adler of 12 Secor Road Scarsdale and Emerina J Marchetti of Tudor Lane Eastchester will each receive $200 university scholarships. Adler is a Scarsdale High School senior headed to the College of Wooster Ohio. Marchetti is an Eastchester High School senior headed to MIT and active in glee club band orchestra and the student government.
John M. Hancock of Mamaro Neck Road was elected chair man of the board of the American Management Association. Hancock, partner in Lehman Brothers, New York City, is a member of the U N atomic energy delegation to the United Nations.
Eight pupils completed the old Griffen Avenue school on Quaker Ridge with diplomas. The Glee Club of fifth to eighth grades sang Pomp and Circumstance as Walter E. Barnes presented the diplomas to Catherine Moreland John Wazzaro Betty Peterson Brooks Sargent Patricia Stone Hugh Van Zelm Michael Ward and Joan Winkel. Dr Floyd E McGuire gave the commencement address and the club performed encore numbers. Seventh and eighth graders danced afterward and refreshments were served by Mrs Sidney J Winkel whose daughter Joan was among the graduates.
Republican Town Committee unity supports Cornell for the August caucus to succeed himself as town supervisor. George W. Cornell of Greenacres Avenue was appointed to fill the unexpired term of the late Ralph A. McClelland and served as committee chairman before resigning. Grace N. Green now acts as temporary chair.
An appeal from Scarsdale Safety Council chairman H. Dudley Bieran will go to every Scarsdale family this week. The police will step up enforcement as posters warn of rising accidents and urge strict adherence to motor vehicle rules to keep streets safe for all residents.
Village recreation representatives and local groups met with the Recreation Department Advisory Board to discuss a proposed calendar service. The plan aims to inform residents and prevent conflicting dates, led by chairwoman Mrs. Charles F. Hazelwood, with attendees from Boy Scouts, churches, associations, clubs, Red Cross, PTA, and Girl Scouts.
Third and final rabies vaccination clinic for dogs will be held tomorrow at the village maintenance plant between Mamaroneck and Secor Roads from noon to two. Free vaccines available without appointment. Last Saturday 154 dogs were inoculated, totaling 359 to date.
Mrs. Raymond Farnham and her eight year old son Frank were injured in a June 11 intersection collision in New Rochelle. Their 1989 sedan, owned by Raymond Farnham, was southbound on Baraud Road entering the Atherstone Road intersection when a City dump truck driven by Joseph Martinetti ran into them. The truck, eastbound on Atherstone, was said to have stopped immediately after impact. Mrs. Farnham reported she did not take her eyes from the road, and the car was towed with $600 damage. The truck remained undamaged.
The Board of Appeals granted temporary permits for the Chat eaux Apartments garage a vegetable stand and two real estate offices after hearings at Village Hall last Friday evening. Malcolm Pirnie chaired. The renewal for a doctor’s suite in the Quincy Oakwood Place home to house a teacher’s family was withdrawn as the teacher relocated.
Alf Erickson, a Norwegian seaman injured in Shanghai on February 6 aboard the Sopho cles, is recovering at White Plains Hospital. After hospital care in Shanghai and a cross country transfer, he arrived by chartered plane to await an operation. His home is Stavanger, Norway, last visited in 1939, and he hopes to return to sea after recovery. The hospital previously cared for a large group of Norwegian seamen in cooperation with the Norwegian Public Health Service.
The last Village Board meeting before September is set for Tuesday at 8:15 PM in the Village Hall. A public hearing will consider extending the Walworth Avenue bus line franchise to December 31 1948 to align with other village franchises.
