Respectable Woman of White Plains Murdered

The body of Mrs Isabella Allen was found mutilated on Cottage avenue near Walter Sniffen’s house on Thursday morning January 23. She struggled to escape her attacker whose weapons were a stone and a club. The murder occurred after six o’clock Wednesday evening and was not found until noon Thursday. Her husband James Allen was arrested and later released. no murderer identified.

Bedford and Yorktown Roads Funded by County Board

The Board of Supervisors authorize the County Treasurer to pay half the cost of about five miles of macadam road from Bedford to Cross River and about three miles from Echo Lake to Pines Bridge in New Castle and Yorktown towns.

James Wood's Lecture on Hudson and County History

Mr. James Wood spoke on the Hudson river's discovery by Henry Hudson and early county history. He described settlement names and White Plains brief allegiance to Connecticut before New York militia restored tax authority. The next lecture by Judson of the Westchester Historical Society is planned for April at the Country Club House in Westchester.

Correction on Bermuda theft incident and sentence

A correction clarifies that Mrs. Ford was robbed and Mr. H. S. Ford did not seize the thief. The culprit Frederick Emory, a steward, was sentenced to six months in Bermuda's Hamilton Penitentiary.

Albert Bennett son of Dr Bennett formerly of the Hyatt farm house has been declared insane and is now confined in a New York City institution. A severe typhoid fever last fall followed by prolonged study is cited as a probable cause.
