An old Civil War tale reveals Anna Hunley, a girl posing as drummer Tom Hunley, served with her father Jeremiah Hunley and General Grant unknowingly. The ruse began in a border state, Tom’s disguise hid a daughter’s courage until Grant ordered her mustered out, later secrets preserved by family.

Mr and Mrs Frank Mikesell arrived from Olathe to spend summer on the farm driving a new Chevrolet six. Mrs Earnest Mikesell Mrs Chas Larson and Mrs Archie Larson attended a miscellaneous shower in Scandia for Miss Maurine Larson. The Mutual Benefit club met June 1 with 22 members present. Quilting and a lunch followed. Mrs Alfred Kallman is in Concordia hospital. Several locals visited relatives and traveled to Belleville and Superior for family updates and illness.
