The Kansas supreme court ruled the anti merchandising law unconstitutional in a 5 to 2 decision. The court found evidence that 80 to 90 percent of gas appliance fixtures were owned by utilities, who sold and installed safe, standard equipment at fair prices and profits. It held long term contracts helped consumer access modern equipment and that utilities acted within constitutional rights. The decision voids a law restricting utility merchandising as a violation of the fourteenth amendment.

Auto Wreck East of Norway Injures Four
A Chevrolet owned by Jack Moe wrecked Sunday evening one and a half miles east of Norway. The car traveling west veered while turning north and struck a telephone pole. Elisha Moore of Norway Jim Tavis and Gust Wennersten of Scandia were taken to doctors Sherrard in Norway and Hagemann in Scandia for treatment. All recovered enough to return home. The car was badly damaged.

Ed Randall Dies After Car Repair Accident
Ed Randall a well known music reader of Republic County died after an accident Tuesday June 6 when a car jack slipped causing the front axle to strike his knee. Tetanus followed and he died Thursday on Lars Melby farm south of town where he had been gardening.
