New State Law Requires Extra Tail Lights For Cars
A recent state law requires two tail lights and a reflector visible for 500 feet plus two separate brake systems. The measure was intended for all motor vehicles but caused confusion upon enactment. An appeal to the attorney general seeks a way to avoid the new obligations for automobile owners.

Oscar Carlson 57 a well known Rackley area farmer died of heart failure Saturday evening in Ed Fitzgerald store Jamestown. Survived by widow daughter Arelia son Swen funeral held Tuesday at 3 pm at the family residence near Rackley.

Refund Checks Backed For Early Kansas Auto Buyers
Kansas motorists who bought 1933 license tags before the law providing a 50 percent fee reduction take a refund. State Motor Vehicle Department Commissioner Victor L. King says about 30,000 checks totaling roughly 150000 dollars will be mailed within days. First checks will leave the office in about a week, with counties sending them to proper parties.

Belleville Rural Graduates Hear F L Miller Address
Two hundred one graduates from rural and district schools in the county received diplomas at a Belleville senior high auditorium commencement last Saturday afternoon. Supt. F L Miller delivered the principal address titled The Grassroads. Readings and musical numbers were performed by members of the graduating class. Laura M Hill presented the diplomas. Valedictorian was Elwin Clark and salutatorian Maurice Treland. Honor students included Leona Pelesky and Ruby Cossart among twenty seven others. The Chamber of Commerce trade extension division hosted a noon lunch in Court House Park for graduates and families.

Former Belleville Surgeon Dies in Salina
Word reached friends of Dr. L. O. Nordstrom who died Sunday evening at Ashbury Hospital in Salina after a short illness caused by infection. Nordstrom had served as surgeon at Asbury and St Johns Hospitals and previously at Patterson Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was well known in the community and his death will surprise many.

Steer Escapes Truck Roams Chicago Business District
A Chicago bound steer escaped from a cattle truck and charged a clothing store window after pausing to view its reflection. The beast dashed through the district as suits and glass broke, pursued by police, aided by a former cowboy who netted it from the hood of a car.
Staple Removed From Man's Lung After Years
Peter Albers a well known local carpenter formerly of Ramona Avenue, resided on Flower Street, east of this city, had carried a heavy steel staple in his lung for seventeen years. A recent X ray at Los Angeles County General Hospital revealed the staple, and surgeons removed part of it with the rest taken out earlier this week. Albers is recovering satisfactorily.

South Side Wins Catnip Ball Game 18–2

Beginning June 8 and through the summer the Scandia Library will be open Saturdays from 8:00 to 9:00. It remains open on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. Memorial Day Program Observed in Scandia Under Historic Address
Memorial Day was observed in Scandia with a Tuesday afternoon program at City Hall. Rev Chas Pehrson gave the Memorial Address and Gettysburg Address while G P Plomler chaired the event. Ex servicemen led a parade to the cemetery for a short service and grave decorations. Local businesses closed from noon to 4 PM.

Passaic Orphans Save Hundreds From Death
Six parentless Passaic lads watched a storm from the Passaic asylum window. They spotted a washed away embankment and a rail section over a ten foot chasm. They sprinted along the tracks waving raincoats and shouting. The engineer halted the express just before disaster, saving 800 passengers.

Annual School Meeting Held in District No 6 Barrow
The annual meeting of District No 6 took place Friday afternoon May 26 at the school. About 35 electors attended as E S Nelson presided. A nine months term was approved, the treasurer Isaacson and clerk Boggess reported similar summaries, and the 12 876 57 tax budget was approved with 5 000 expected from tuition. G P Plotner was chosen clerk to replace E M Boggess. The board begins drafting teacher contracts.

Norris couple seriously injured in oil truck collision
