Earth Day 1972 quiet. UN vow and church bells toll
Earth Day 1972 saw few nationwide events with church bells tolling in memory of what was once taken seriously by millions. The UN ceremony featured Kurt Waldheim and a Japan donated peace bell as he urged support for the Stockholm conference. Reports note sparse campus activities and media coverage despite televised Earth Day programming. A Wendell Idaho poisoning incident killed several pets, prompting a $500 reward for information leading to suspects.

House committee probes vocational lease deal in Idaho
Boise UPI reports the House Judiciary Committee examined a 10 year lease between the vocational rehabilitation service and the Sa Ray Co owned by Ray and Sara Ewing Meridian. The plan would lease space to the agency for five dollars per square foot totaling about 335000 dollars with federal funds backing rent. A similar arrangement exists with the Disability Determination Division of the Social Security Administration for nearly half the building at five dollars per square foot or 219200 dollars. State officials scrutinized who approved the deals and whether they bind the state, while board of education records show the matter was discussed in 1968 at a closed session with no formal approval found.
