Castro Says Skipper CIA Agent Handed to Cuba

Castro announced in Havana radio that Capt. Jose Villa, skipper of the Miami based cargo ship Johnny Express seized by Cuba, confessed to espionage as a CIA agent and will face Cuban authorities. Villa, born in Cuba but a naturalized U.S. citizen, was wounded slightly and accused of staging a dying scene. 13 other crewmen were uninjured. The seizure followed Cuba’s earlier capture of sister ship Layla Express on December 5 and heightened Caribbean tensions as the U.S. and Cuba alert their air and naval units.
