Idaho Falls Hair Length Rule Declared Discriminatory

Idaho Human Rights Commission ruled that Bonneville School District 93 hair length standard unfairly targets males. The panel found sex discrimination under Idaho law after testimony from Kevin and Kim Getsinger of Bonneville High School. Some speakers defended the rule as part of the district dress code despite teacher and student testimony that long hair did not disrupt classes. Cont. On Page Two.

Libby Driver Cited Here After US 95 Crash

Two people sustained minor injuries in a Thursday crash on US 95 half a mile north of Sagle road. Libby resident Peter Renk, 83, was cited on two counts for failing to show a license on demand and speeding for road conditions. Kenneth Cramer, 46, Sandpoint, veered into a ditch, and Ronald Nordland stopped to help, his lights flashing. Renk’s vehicle could not stop in time to avoid hitting Nordland’s car.

Bonners Ferry Bond Fails by Narrow Margin

A $425000 school bond issue in Bonners Ferry was defeated by three votes Tuesday with 397 for and 203 against. The two thirds needed was not reached. The board must wait six months to reattempt, planning another vote to fund three school additions and related furnishings and equipment.

Spokane Man Killed In Avalanche

Sven Kjemperud, 24, son of Knut Kjemperud of Spokane, died in an avalanche at Granite Mountain Ski Area near Rosslyn RC. He was buried under snow while skiing with five companions and his body was recovered two hours after the slide. The group had traveled there for a holiday from the University of British Columbia.

Ranch owner to sell Diamond Ring Ranch in Wyoming

Van Irvine, owner of the 85 000 acre Diamond Ring Ranch, said he is selling after a two day federal hearing on alleged spraying of public land without prior approval. Federal officials cited use of weed killer on 5000 leased acres and wildlife groups claimed damages to wildlife. Irvine had faced charges for antelope poaching and using carcasses to trap predators.
