Reservoir Level Falls to Lowest Point in 25 Years

The Anderson Raftich reservoir on the South Fork of the Boise River has dropped to its lowest level since filling 25 years ago due to drought and irrigation demand. Howard Chitwood of the Bureau of Reclamation warned further declines through September if rains do not come and irrigation persists, noting 2,500 acre-feet are being drawn daily and potentially another 50 feet drop by fall. Arrow Rock Reservoir is nearly dry as fish welfare is maintained. Idaho Fish and Game’s Brian Rush fears kokanee salmon may have to travel several miles upstream to spawn as the river remains wide and shallow.
