Bonner County Fair Opens With Large Exhibits And Events

The Bonner County Fair began with crowds racing to see live bears, cougars, livestock, fowl, and vegetables. 4-H and FFA activities include king and queen crowning at 7:30, a talent contest with $50 prize, and extensive judging and sales sessions through Friday, ending Saturday with dog obedience, forestry, poultry judging, and draft horse shows. The four day event is free to the public with 50 plus booths on display and the Idaho Draft Horse International upcoming in October.

Zoning Commission Set to Hear Bonner County Proposals

The Bonner County Planning and Zoning Commission meets tonight at 8 p.m. with disputes expected over a proposed mini storage at Oldtown owned by Murph and Marie Maas and a conditional use permit for a west Sandpoint multi family project on Pinecrest Cemetery Road owned by James R. Holder. Additional preliminary items include Hoodoo Acres near Newport by George A. Cunningham and County Estate Homes by Cunningham and G Gene Andrews, plus various other developments and businesses across Sandpoint Colburn Priest River and Priest Lake areas.

Baldy Road Gets Major Upgrading

Bonner County Road Dist. 3 will overlay Baldy Road from north Boyer to Division Street and along Division to the city limits to extend road life and smooth the bed. A lighter overlay will be applied on Division Street. two inches later to withstand heavy truck traffic. An experimental patch is planned at Schweitzer Road junction to save Boyer, with possible future rework after spring frost.

Bomb threat empties Newport Sprouse-Reitz store

A bomb threat by telephone prompted Newport police to evacuate the Sprouse Reitz store at about 6 30 p m Wednesday. Officers searched the building and found no bomb or hazardous device.
