New Ulcer Treatments Win FDA Approval and Study Support
The FDA approved cimetidine, trade named Tagamet, for general ulcer use, offering easier dosing than long antacid regimens. A separate study from the Center for Ulcer Research and Education shows large antacid doses may aid healing, though long-term compliance is poor, guiding interim therapy choices by cost availability and safety.

Russians in Name Only by 1990
New York based LeROY POPE reports Walter Johnson of Sales and Marketing Executives International at Key Biscayne predicts that by 1990 the Russians will still call themselves communists but will not be communists. He foresees a 180 degree shift in thinking among communist powers with rising capitalist incentives to boost productivity. The panel envisions changes in U S politics and society including a 1996 woman president potential and an aging population. They foresee a reduced work week, shifts in sexual morality, a greater emphasis on vocational diplomas, and federated multi nation trade blocs with government driven foreign trade and nationalization of key industries. Africa, once Rome’s breadbasket, could become a major food exporter amid regional turmoil.
