New Fires Start in Panhandle Area
Fires across the Panhandle National Forest sparked new blazes as crews fought the Mt Casey fire near Priest Lake. A 15 acre area northeast of Clark Fork was reportedly under control, while another 20 acre fire near Bonners Ferry was also contained. National Guardsmen aided 200 firefighters amid rugged terrain and gusty winds.

Idaho forest fires burn 6500 acres but mostly contained
Northern Idaho blazes consumed about 6500 acres with the Cotter Bar fire near Grangeville totaling 4355 acres before containment. Three Injured In Northbound U S 95 Crash Near Careywood
Thayer Ace Thayer 30 Coeur d Alene was northbound on U S 95 when his pickup left the road near Careywood. Passengers Doug and Larry Riddle of Costa Mesa were thrown from the vehicle. Thayer is in satisfactory condition at Bonner General Hospital. the Riddles were sent to a Spokane hospital. Vehicle damage estimated at 900 dollars.

Theft of Three Fruit Trees From Porch
Mrs. Ernest Beauchene of Sandpoint reported Thursday the loss of three fruit trees from her porch. An orange tree seven years old producing fruit and two lemon trees were stolen. Estimated value is $80. The theft occurred while she slept.
