Kiwanis Club Marks 10th Anniversary in Saline

Kiwanis members gathered for an anniversary dinner in Saline with Louis Kress introducing Dick Peaberthy Michigan district governor. Hugh Keveline summarized community service projects including Saturday movies for children, Lamb Club sponsorship, Explorer Scout post, Santa visits, Halloween party, park field work, tree planting with Jaycees, and Kiwanis scholarship programs totaling R375 in share.

Saline Area Schools mull start of 1968-69 teacher talks

A Saline Area Schools Advisory Council meeting is set for next week to discuss a resolution urging that negotiations for the 1968-69 teacher contracts begin immediately. The public is invited to attend the 8 p.m. session in the high school library and committee members Dan Sirones Albert Gall and Bob McNally prepared the measure.

Petitions Due Soon For City Election

Nominating petitions for the November 7 city council race must be filed by October 18, per City Clerk Maurice Doll. Expiring two year terms belong to Hugh Keveling Ormond Jedele and William Meister. Meister was appointed last week to fill the term vacated by Donald Dechert, who moved to Dearborn.

Saline Welcomes New Police Officer Roger B Cohoe

Roger B Cohoe 26 joined the Saline Police this month and will move to the city as soon as a house is found. He and his wife with two children live in Pittsfield Township. A Marine veteran, he served with Ann Arbor Police from 1964 after training at the Ann Arbor Police Academy and replaces Neil Tracy who resigned for Ferris State College security duties.

Volunteers Needed for Christmas Card Sale in Saline

Saline volunteers are sought to help with the annual Christmas card sale for the Michigan Association for Emotionally Disturbed Children. The event, run for about 19 years, funds the group’s income besides member contributions. cards designed by emotionally disturbed children sell for one dollar per package of ten. The Washtenaw County MAEDC meets monthly September through May. membership is open to parents, lay people, and professionals.

Townships and City Reach Fire Protection Agreement

Saline officials sign a 10 year fire protection pact with townships to fund the new fire hall and equipment, allocating 47 percent of the cost this year from townships. An ambulance base remains temporary in the old fire hall to ensure county wide service without disbanding the volunteer Saline department.

City Captains Named for UF Campaign in 1967 Drive

Campaign leaders for the United Fund in 1967 were announced this week, including Mrs. Donald Leidheiser, Mrs. Donald Talsma, Nina Arénd heading the Business and Professional Women's Club, and Mrs. Henry Nelson. Don Church is campaign chairman. kickoff is October 12 with a Universal Die Casting dinner hosted by Mrs. Paul Woods. Rural captains will be named next week. The 1967-68 budget is set at 23724 dollars, up 55 percent from last year, after 1966 reached 200 percent of goal.

Saline Hosts Navy Drum and Bugle Corps Visit

Midshipman Robert Still leads the U S Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps as they rehearse in Saline before performing at the Michigan Navy game in Ann Arbor. About 90 of 120 corps members will perform at halftime and tour local service clubs.
