Navy Drum and Bugle Corps to Visit Saline

The U S Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps of 91 members will visit Saline on Saturday October 7. Midshipman Robert Still son of Mr and Mrs L Z Still is a Saline native and plays bugle with the group. The corps travels by bus escorted by police and will rehearse about 45 minutes on the high school field before a noon arrival in Ann Arbor for the Michigan Navy game.

Police Warn Against Misuse of B B Guns

Police say vandals using B B guns have caused significant damage in the city in recent weeks. A city ordinance bans discharging air or spring guns within limits and violators or their parents may face liability. Targets include Houghton School Gross Farm Equipment Saline Mercantile Co and several houses with broken windows and damaged outer skins of portable classrooms. Investigations are underway as authorities monitor all buildings overnight.

Ambulance Contract Could Put Unit in Saline Countywide

Washtenaw County voted to hire Superior Ambulance for a nine month contract to provide five ambulances plus two backups at a maximum of 125000 dollars per year. A Saline site is sought to centralize service and reduce costs, with plans for one ambulance in Ypsilanti Township Chelsea and a unit between Ann Arbor and the county edge.

Kelly Taught in Taiwan and Santo Domingo Schools

Sixth graders at Houghton School learn their teacher Susan Bailey is nicknamed Kelly after an Australian bandit as a joke. Kelly taught in Taiwan for a year at Taipei American School then worked as a travel agent before teaching in Santo Domingo after the 1965 revolution, later returning to the United States with her husband. The Saline Township Board meeting was moved to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Township Hall.

Meister Appointed to Saline City Council Vacancy

William Meister 57, group vice president at Hoover Ball and Bearing Co., was appointed Monday by the Saline City Council to fill the vacancy created by Donald Dechert’s resignation. Meister has long been a Saline resident and served on the city planning commission. The council term runs through December 31, 1967, with petitions for candidacy due 20 days before the November 7 election.

HS Seeks Machine Shop Teacher For Three Classes

Principal Thibault said the high school urgently needs a machine shop teacher since current industrial arts staff lack that field training. A community member with college background and machine shop experience is asked to call Thibault. A temporary teaching certificate can be issued by the state.

Two New Agencies Added to Budget and Reserve Fund

The 1967 68 Saline Area United Fund sets a 23724 goal with a 2500 reserve for emergencies and adds two agencies. Cystic Fibrosis funded 1200 and Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County join the budget. local groups receive varied allocations and the drive kicks off October 12 at the American Legion Hall with Don Church as campaign chair.

New Saline Library Board Gets Two New Members

Two new members joined the Saline Public Library board at Tuesday’s meeting. George Anderson was appointed as City Council representative to fill a vacancy from Don Dechert. Mrs. Robert Starling fills a vacancy from Mrs. David Cobb who has moved away from Saline.

Meadow Lane hole in one winner at 195-yard No. 7

Art Michalke finally claimed the first hole in one at Meadow Lane Golf Course after waiting more than a year. He holed out on the 195-yard No. 7 with a No 4 wood. Michalke has 36 years of golf experience and had three previous aces on Pat's Par 3 course.
