Firefighters douse kitchen fire on Hollywood Drive
Saline Fire Department responded Tuesday morning to a kitchen blaze at 469 Hollywood Dr. A waste basket caught fire, scorching the walls and burning curtains near a window. No injuries reported. Fire crews extinguished the flames and secured the scene.

Two Men Arraigned on Theft Charges in Saline
Saline police arrested Phillip Yoder and Richard Akan less than four hours after a $900 burglary at County Market. The pair, a store employee and a part time worker, admitted the theft which included $861.59 cash, gift stamps worth about $70 and two hams. They waived examination and faced arraignment in Ann Arbor Municipal Court with Circuit Court set for Friday. Bond was set at $1000 each. Yoder posted bond while Akan remained in jail.

Twin sisters die one day apart at age 81
York township resident Mrs. Mabel Har riet Begole and Ypsilanti resident Miss Maud Celia Carpenter died within a day of each other at 81. Begole lived in York township and ran a dairy farm with her husband Delancey Begole, and Carpenter worked 42 years at the Ypsilanti Post Office. Funeral services were held in Milan and Ypsilanti with burial in Oakwood and Highland cemeteries.
