Livestock Auction Brings Charity Bids and Big Sales

Universal Die Casting bought the Grand Champion Steer and Roesch and Delhey won the Grand Champion Lamb at a highly attended Saline Fair livestock auction. Proceeds from the lamb sales supported Saline Community Hospital, with lambs resold to four bidders for the benefit. The Reserve Champion steer went to R. G. Wahl and the Reserve Champion lamb to James Burmeister.

Hearing Set On Sidewalk Assessments In City

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday October 4 on special assessment districts 37 through 45 covering 43 lots in the Stage I sidewalk program. Owners who already installed sidewalks may be excluded. The council authorized plans and specs and a $7571.92 cost estimate. The Stage I program began earlier this year with notices to owners about assessments unless they built sidewalks earlier. Areas aim to provide continuous downtown walking access across the city.

Probation Violator Arrested After High Speed Chase

Michael Robbins of Ypsilanti with a Washtenaw County warrant for probation violation was arrested by Saline police after a high speed chase over 100 mph. Interrogation linked him to a county breaking and entering case last week.

City Council Approves Water Billing Procedure Changes

City Council approves ten changes to water billing rules without rate increases. Councilman George Johnson says home air conditioner use and rates for air conditioned buildings remain unchanged. A separate meter and routing to the sewage plant could remove a 100 percent surcharge. changes are administrative and do not affect rates.

The Rev. George Moore of the Assembly of God Church on Bemis Rd will conduct a water baptismal service at 3 pm Sunday at Fa Ho Lo Camp in Grass Lake. Public meeting set on Saline school budget

A public meeting on the Saline area school budget is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday September 28 at the High School gymnasium. The Board of Education will circulate a complete list of necessary budget cuts with dollar by dollar costs. All district residents are urged to attend.

Audience members urged the Board of Education to seek another vote on extra operating millage to cover this year’s revenue shortfall. The board said taxes voted now cannot be spread this year and debt must be paid, with borrowing tied to next year’s millage.
