The October notice names Mrs. Arthur Elis as assistant campaign chairman and lists campaign committee members including Marland Hutt publicity chairman the Rev Merle E Meeden United Fund Board president and Dr Gerald Eisemann campaign committee member.
Dr. Donald Kahn famed heart transplant surgeon will speak at the United Fund Kick-off dinner Oct 14 in Saline Mason ic hall. He heads the Michigan Heart Association affiliated team with three transplants and a rare lung transplant to his credit. The event supports Saline area agencies with Hoover Ball & Bearing Co. as sponsor for the dinner and QHS for the breakfast.
Awards given at a Court of Honor at the Junior High School recount rank updates. Scott Sackett earned Life Scout while Bill Mennell joined Star Scouts. Barry Fritts Neil Wilson and Mark Sundling reached First Class. Second Class went to Mark Anderson Harvey Thacker Dennis Fick and Brian Singleton. Senior strips to Matt Vila Neil Wilson Mark Schneemilch Dale Vance and David Judy. Merit badges and years served listed for Fick Hatfield Janovits and others. Sundling led with multiple badges across many fields.
The 10th annual Girl Scout and Brownie uniform exchange runs Sept. 25 to Oct. 25 at Mrs. Donald Talsma's home 551 Canterbury Dr. Call 429-7578 for info. Talsma has led troops for three daughters and now serves as assistant leader of Cadet Troop 143.
Saline Township approves an electrical licensing ordinance detailing requirements for electricians and contractors, inspection provisions, and creation of a township electrical inspector's office. An identical ordinance appeared last week in Lodi Township.
The Midwest Cowboys Association judged Saline Jaycees rodeo the season’s finest with 116 contestants from eight states and more than $2,000 in prizes. Bob Kirk of Ann Arbor placed fourth in bareback bronc riding. Jenny Wray won the gift pony. A bull escaped, calves bolted, and cowboys recovered them without damage.
Salinians showcase a DIY library funded by donations from individuals, businesses, and groups. Open house Sunday 2 to 5 p.m. highlights work by Dick Cole and a long list of contributors including the Schleh building sellers, Ford plant donations, and local residents.
