After a marathon session, Saline teachers voted 87 to 3 to accept a labor contract based on a state mediations fact finder. Starting salary stays at 5900 for degreed beginners, with up steps. health, life insurance, sick leave, sabbatical, and a sick bank are included.
Bobbi Politz was named Miss Saline after 24 contestants competed at the fairgrounds. Her sisters learned the news by long distance call, while Bonnie Guenther and Sharon Burkhardt earned Miss Congeniality and runners up honors.
The Saline chapter 43 Junior Deputies directed traffic for the fair from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, aiding hundreds of cars. Sheriff Deputy Erwin He wes led the effort and the group joined the Ann Arbor unit in the Saturday parade, with plans to add seven or eight new members at a recruiting meeting.
Fair board members cannot determine sponsors for two junior division winning floats in the parade. The sailboat float placed second and the Litter Poppin Up float placed third. first went to the Saline Lamb Club. In seniors, first went to the American Legion float and second to Ypsilanti Township.
Senior Citizens of the Sa line area will meet at 8 p.m. Monday at the Junior High School corner of Mc Kay and N Ann Arbor St. Anyone interested is welcome.
Pittsfield Township plans a 1985 land use study led by its planning commission and Washtenaw County Metropolitan Planning Commission. Public sessions at 8 a.m. at Township Hall will cover Area A on Sept 18, Area B Sept 19, Area C Sept 20, and Area D Sept 25.
The Rev. Robert Nelson will receive an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Landmark Baptist College Hayward California at 11 am service at Saline Baptist Church where he is pastor. Dr. O C Harris will present the degree in recognition of Nelson's home missionary work and literary contributions to Landmark College. Nelson, Geneva College graduate and Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary alumnus, has 13 years as a home missionary and helped found three Michigan churches.
The State Labor Mediation Board fact finder Morris Milmet reports a settlement basis for Saline school issues on page 1A of The Reporter. Milmet, with Milmet and Vetchio in Detroit, is among about 10 appointed this year for school and industrial talks. He hails from Holly, Mich, and is a 1949 UM Law School graduate. currently mediating Oak Park talks.
