Student artists completed a festive scene titled Do Not Enter near the Ford building where normal business continues behind a fantasy facade. Otto Gunnesch photographed the display.
More than 80 children and youths went door to door Sunday for UNICEF and another round is planned for Saturday afternoon. Collections topped 235 dollars for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. Methodist and Presbyterian groups covered south of Michigan Ave and outlying areas while St Pauls youth canvassed north of Michigan Ave and west of Ann Arbor Street. Junior High pupils go east of Ann Arbor Street and north of Michigan Ave. Territory was divided to avoid duplicates. UNICEF containers were to be available in churches on Sunday November 2 if missed. Goodwill pickup van will visit Saline Friday. call Helen Koebbé at 429-9695.
Police urge drivers to watch for small trick or treaters on Friday night as children in costumes roam residential streets. Parents should inspect loot before consumption, and ensure costumes are hemmed, masks let in wide vision, and each child carries a flashlight.
The Houghton School PTO ways and means committee will present recommendations on carnival funds at a 7:30 p.m. meeting Monday at the school. A following week general meeting features Ron Edmonds of Ann Arbor Public Schools speaking on "The Rightness of Whiteness" at 7:30 p.m. in the Houghton School gym.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Saline on Wednesday November 12 to replenish the Saline Area Blood Bank. The bank at Houghton School will operate 2 30 to 5 pm and 6 to 8 30 pm with volunteers staffing the drive. The drive seeks donors aging up to 66, lifts standards, and reports 73 pints donated this year with 37 remaining. United Fund hits 20 percent of goal at 7570 80, boosted by a Ford Saline plant gift.
City officials prepared four election machines for Tuesday at the Junior High School for a noncompetitive vote. Three council seats are up and three incumbents are unopposed, with Jameson Ford Jack Measley and Edward Marsh on the ballot for new terms. There are no proposals at any level.
Jaycees announce a door-to-door sale in Saline starting at 7 pm Monday to raise funds for the United Fund. Proceeds support UF, with liners replacing metal cans as a city-approved trash receptacle and the DPW offering limited bag-only pickups.
The Saline School Advisory Council will elect officers and representatives at its annual meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the High School library. Vacancies cover city and township seats including two from Lodi Township three from Pittsfield one from Bridgewater one from Saline Township and five from the City of Saline. Representatives must be registered voters interested in the school system with no other requirements. Public invited to attend all meetings.
Dave Potter was elected president of Saline's Civitan Club which received its charter at Leutheuser's Restaurant. Officers include Bill Cahalan as vice president and Robert Harrison as secretary treasurer. Will iam Pearson of Wayne spoke as Civitan international vice president. The charter night was sponsored by the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Civitan clubs.
One man faced a drug count at Chelsea District Court with Joseph Anthony Parisi 18 of Taylor set for Nov 4 examination on possession of narcotics. Ricky Alan Rector 18 and Robert L. Snyder 18 of Taylor were fined on intoxicants charges after a 3 am arrest by Officers Root and Cohoe. Two other men with them were released pending further investigation. Rotary Club meeting planned with Dwight Reynolds as program chairman at Leuthheuser's Restaurant.
