Meredith and Thyra Bixby honored at Detroit Art Institute reception between showings of their new production The Wizard of Lo ne. Their Old Saline Opera House programs inspire puppets and scenery for Aladdin and His Magic Lamp and other pieces touring 300 Midwest schools. The Wizard of Oz debuts for Saline students May 3, 1968.

Car Crash Injures Adrian Man Near Saline
Raymond C. Hayford, 32, of Adrian, was hospitalized after a Wednesday morning crash four miles west of Saline on US 12. He was insured and treated at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for injuries from the collision with a tree.

Woman builds four bedroom home solo in Michigan Ave project
Imogene Hertler known as Jean or Jeannie built a four bedroom frame house at 7570 E Michigan Ave. She dug the basement, raised walls and roof, wired, plumbed, and finished most carpentry while juggling family chores and other jobs. Her husband contributed, her father taught her, and the project took a year. Her 49th birthday fell during the work.
