Saline to Hold Two Public Forums on Elementary Bond Issue

The Saline Area Schools Board and Advisory Council schedule meetings for November 30 and December 2 at 8 p.m. in the High School gym to answer questions about the proposed $790 000 bond for a new elementary school and repairs to existing buildings. Registered voters will vote December 14 at the Intermediate School, with no debt millage increase expected.

Voices From Home project planned here by Red Cross

The American Red Cross will conduct Voices From Home recordings at Federated Church on December 9 with no charge. Mrs. Edwin Hering, local Red Cross representative, announced the event and urged appointments or information calls to Mrs. Arthur Gill at 429-7357.

Saline Baptist Church nearing completion at Saline Milan and Willis Rds awaits pews for inaugural services. Pastor Robert Nelson, arrived September 1962, has led growth from 35 to about 130 in two years as members help with the project.

Karen Lindemann a 16 year old Saline High School junior and daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Lindemann was crowned Miss Michigan Farm Bureau at the state meeting in Lansing. Contestants from 13 counties competed as Lindemann, resident of Washtenaw County, succeeds Susan Walker from Manchester.

The Willing Workers Club will host a pot luck dinner at 7 30 p m on Thursday November 19 at Saline Township Hall.

Churches Plan Union Thanksgiving Services

A union service for St. James United Church of Christ, the Methodist Church of Saline, the Presbyterian First Baptist Church, and St. Paul United Church of Christ is set for Wednesday November 25 at 8 pm at St. James Church with all four choirs. Rev John Michael will preach assisted by liturgists Rev Donald Kraushaar Rev George Laurent and Rev Armin Bizer. The offering supports World Service. Another union service will join Bethel United Church of Christ Freedom Township Emanuel United Church of Christ and the Manchester Methodist Church at Emanuel Church at 8 pm on the same evening with Bethel junior choirs singing.

Library to Install First Telephone at Saline

The Saline Public Library plans to acquire its first telephone to enable more services. The decision was made at Tuesday night’s library board meeting attended by four named members with Mrs. Donald Rapp absent. The board also approved a policy to bill for replacement after overdue notices.

Meha retirement village re zoned by city council

City Council approved re zoning of the Meha retirement village site from R 1 single family to R 2 multiple dwelling to conform with contracts with the city. The property was annexed under R 1 by current zoning ordinance.

Five Thefts Reported To Police In Rolling Meadows Area

A series of five thefts were reported this week. Building materials valued at $240 were stolen from a Rolling Meadows site with a truck seen nearby. Larcenies from homes included a $49.95 watch and 42 rolls of pennies at Whitlock addresses. Gary Keehl, 20, was arraigned on larceny charges and linked to 11 prior thefts. Auto thefts included a tent and frame from a truck and a purse from a car on Davenport Street.

Saline United Fund lag continues at 46.5 percent

In Saline the United Fund drive shows 46.5 percent completion with only $6,062.71 of the $13,095 needed. Drive chairman Buford Seden notes late or partial reports from residential areas and businesses, but signals improvements from R B Tool Co and industry contributions are expected to grow as captains submit updates.

New Stoplight Now Operating in City

The city’s new traffic stop light at Crestwood and Ann Arbor Street is in operation. Chief Jim Levlett said until a timer arrives the light will be operated manually with a stop and go pattern on school days during specified times. otherwise it will flash amber on Ann Arbor Street and red on Crestwood.

Post Office to Close on Thanksgiving Day

Saline Post Office will observe holiday procedures Thursday November 26 Thanksgiving Day. No window service will be provided and there will be no deliveries by city or rural carriers. Holiday schedules for collection receipt and dispatch of mail will be observed.

Three Hurt In Accidents In Saline Area Week

Saline area youths were injured in traffic incidents this week. Mary Ann Alexander, 18, suffered broken ribs and neck lacerations after a one car crash near Clinton. Carolyn Layne, 18, was killed when the car she rode in went off a rain slick curve. Nancy Coleman, 21, sustained a closed head injury in a bicycle collision with a parked car in Ann Arbor.
